Linda Dorcena Forry Wins State Senate Seat
BOSTON, MA — In one of Boston’s fervent Irish strongholds, a Haitian-American woman from Dorchester has won a Senate seat long held by men from South Boston.
On Tuesday, May 28, State Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry clinched a historic victory to become the first woman and person of color to represent Boston’s First Suffolk Senate district.
Dorcena Forry won 80 percent of the votes (according to unofficial results), easily beating her Republican challenger Joseph Ureneck in a special election to fill the Senate vacancy. This victory came on the heels of a heavily contested primary in which she bested two South Boston Democrats.
Since the neighborhoods represented in the district — Dorchester, South Boston, Mattapan and Hyde Park — are largely comprised of Democratic voters, Dorcena Forry was expected to sail through the general election with a sizable win. Those neighborhoods also represent the heart of Boston’s Haitian community, where she has very strong support.
Dorcena Forry, a Lower Mills resident, will become the highest ranked elected official of Haitian descent in the Bay State, and the first to serve in the state Senate. Eight years ago, she became only the second Haitian-American elected official in the state — after winning another special election to the 12th Suffolk District seat in the House of Representatives (that replaced Thomas Finneran, former speaker of the House).
During her tenure, Dorcena Forry rose to House Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business, where she was a leading advocate for economic development. And after the earthquake, her office fielded thousands of calls during the relief efforts, as she championed Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian survivors and comprehensive immigration reform.

Un studio en l’honneur de Rodrigue Milien à la TNH

Le vendredi 31 mai, le président Michel Martelly a inauguré le studio Rodrigue Milien à la Télévision nationale d’Haïti (TNH), en présence de l’intéressé lui-même rentré récemment au pays spécialement pour cette distinction.
Une heure après, le chef de l’Etat s’est rendu au Bureau haïtien du droit d’auteur (BHDA), pour s’inscrire comme artiste-musicien.
Dans l’après-midi, le chef de l’Etat, dans une cérémonie au Palais national, a décoré le maestro Raoul Guillaume, le musicien Rodrigue Milien, le Père Antoine Occide Jean (Pè Sico) et à titre posthume l’écrivaine et conteuse Mimi Barthelemy.

Le président souhaite l'agrandissement de la capacité du terrain de football de Carrefour.
Alors qu'on croyait qu'il allait ré-inaugurer le Centre Sportif de Carrefour dont les travaux de réfection sont en cours, le président Michel Martelly exprime le souhait de préférence que ces travaux soient amplifiés pour doter la Commune de Carrefour d'une infrastructure plus décente. La leçon du gymnasium inauguré avant l'heure en mai 2012 semble avoir été apprise, car non seulement, il a fait faire de très bonnes réparations du Gymnasium, désormais il visite préalablement les travaux effectués afin de bien connaître.
